Rationale:

Business 101 is a program designed to accelerate the success of an individual who is starting a new company through an array of business support resources and services.

Course Aims and Outcomes:

This course aims to develop the entrepreneur through knowledge of basics business practices, and acquire the skills needed to compete for private and public funding and contracts.

 

Specific Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will understand:

 

501(c)3 The first step for becoming a nonprofit organization is to register at the state level as a nonprofit corporation
Accounting Assistance with taxes
Business Plan A business plan is a formal statement of a set of business goals, the reasons they are believed attainable, and the plan for reaching those goals. It may also contain background information about the organization or team attempting to reach goals
Business Startup Packages Business Cards, logo design, email address,
Credit Repair If credit is an issue we have someone that can assist you with that as well. Funding information share to entrepreneurs
D&B DUN & Bradstreet number Data Universal Numbering System, abbreviated as DUNS or D-U-N-S, is a proprietary system developed and regulated by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) that assigns a unique numeric identifier, referred to as a “DUNS number” to a single business entity
DBA The phrase “doing business as” (d/b/a) is a legal term used in the United States and Canada, meaning that the trade name, or fictitious business name, under which the business or operation is conducted and presented to the world is not the legal name of the legal person(s) who actually owns the business and is responsible for it. In other countries the expressions operating as (abbreviated o/a) or trading as (abbreviated T/A) are used for a similar purpose
DBE Disadvantaged Business Enterprises are entities owned and/or controlled by a socially and economically disadvantaged individuals
MBE Minority Business Enterprises are entities that are at least 51% owned and/or controlled by a socially and economically disadvantaged individual
NAICS The Census Bureau’s system for classifying business establishments
NPI A National Provider Identifier or NPI is a unique 10-digit identification number issued to health care providers
SIC Code The Standard Industrial Classification System, or SIC, is a numerical scheme used to classify businesses according to industry type
Time Management Help to assist you with managing your time
TIN Taxpayer Identification Number and Employer Identification Number (EIN) are defined as a nine-digit number that the IRS assigns to organizations
Virtual Office A Virtual Assistant is just like a personal assistant but works from a remote location. Clients benefit because they get the help they need to run their business without the cost, risk and hassle of employing someone.
WBE Women’s Business Enterprises are entities that are at least 51% owned and/or controlled by women
Website Design We’ll assist you with setting up your website to include Social Media

 

 

 Format and Procedures: 

The course structured in a lecture and lab format. Students are expected to take notes and read all course material. Labs are to be turned in the following Tuesday after assigned. The specifications for attendance are that each student will attend each class, with no exceptions. Student are to respect others privacy and are not allowed to discuss other classmates business outside to class discussions.

  1. My Assumptions

Business 101 is a nonprofit business. We work with startup companies which have based their businesses in the southwest region of Dallas Texas. We work closely with these companies to create feasible business plans, to develop effective marketing strategies, to build strong management teams, and to launch them successfully into the Dallas/Fort Worth economy.

 

Business 101 is a public-private partnership of the Mountain View College, Start-Up Southwest Dallas Region and the Dallas/ Fort Worth business community.

Non-credit courses for the enhancement of business knowledge and growth.  It is our desire to assist small business entrepreneurs in becoming healthy contributors to the economy and employment base of the community.

 

Course Requirements: Whatever tasks and assignments you include in your course should be aligned with the specified learning outcomes (final learning state, skills, knowledge, attitudes and values the students leave the course with) you have defined and specified earlier.

Class attendance and participation policy: In order for the student to gain the most benefit of this course, please be prepared to attend all scheduled classes without exception. Missed lectures will not be repeated

Grading Procedures: This is a non credit course and is graded based upon the readiness of your startup by the end of the course.
